We are a leading electronic claims delivery company in South Africa, with an active client base of over 14,000 practices. On average, we receive more than 280,000 patient claims daily and process over 200,000 online claims per day.

1993

QEDI (MediSwitch) launched their batch claim submission process for doctors.  

1998
1998

  • Peter Kennedy is appointed Managing Director of MediSwitch. 
  • MediSwitch launched the first real time/online claim submission process from pharmacies to Mediscor. 
1999
1999

  • MediSwitch launched the first real time/online claim submission process from healthcare providers to FedHealth. 
  • Lucramed headed by Gideon Brits buys MASS (Medical Accounting Software).

  • Med-e-Solve and Lucramed merge to become Med-e-Mass (Pty) Ltd.  
2001

  • QEDI and MediSwitch merged to form Digital Healthcare Solutions (DHS) and is co-owned by Bytes Technology Group, Comparex Africa and Netcare) and USAP. 
  • Med-e-Mass later joins the DHS group. 
2002

  • DHS won the Most Improved Company in the Bytes Technology Group Award in the annual Altron Awards. 
  • DHS launched their online claim submission process from pharmacies to the Metropolitan Health Group’s QPBM. 
  • DHS was elected as a member of the Midrand Chamber of Commerce and Industry.

  • Elixir Classic is launched, becoming the first clinical and financial management application to hit the South African healthcare market.

  • DHSwitch launches their online claim submission process from healthcare providers to Metropolitan Health Group (MHG).

  • Bytes Technology Group acquired 100% of Digital Healthcare Solutions. 
  • Realtime claim submission process from healthcare providers to Medihelp is launched. 
  • DHSwitch forms MediSwitch Namibia in partnership with Methealth Namibia and captures the majority share of Namibian pharmacy transaction market. 
  • MedeMass launched the practice management system, MASS.

  • DHS wins the BEE Award for the Group’s contribution to BEE in the annual Altron Awards. 
  • Mediscor began accepting dispensing doctor medicine claims from DHS. 
  • DHS is also appointed the exclusive switching partner for the Medicross group. 
  • DHS launches online claims submission process from pharmacies to MX Health.  
  • DHS goes live with electronic Remittance Advices to Medihelp.

  • DHS Arabia is established – expanding the Swítch business beyond South Africa’s borders. 
  • Digital Healthcare Solutions changes its name to Bytes Healthcare Solutions 
  • Med-e-Mass bought Mastermed practice management application.

  • BHS’s Swítch – The Swítch Electronic Messaging System (SEMS) goes live. 
  • Med-e-Mass starts its own payment solution in conjunction with Nedbank and Edcon.

  • BHS’s Swítch launched SwítchOn – a premier service for healthcare providers to optimize cash flow management. 
  • Realtime claims switching to Discovery Health goes live.

  • BHS wins the Best Company in the Bytes Technology Group Award in the annual Altron Awards. 
  • Swítch launches WEBDesk – giving clients improved access to information, claims management and claims tracking tools. 
  • Med-e-Mass+  was installed at Medicross / Primecure and other associated practices in Medicross. 
  • Swítch also launches SwítchComm Plus – its latest communications software for healthcare providers to transmit and manage claims.

  • Swítch changes their name to MediSwitch. 
  • BHS is voted as the Best Company to work for in the Bytes Group. 
  • MediSwitch was awarded with one of the Medi-Clinic Service Provider of the year awards 
  • Med-e-Mass acquires the HEALTHone electronic health record solution.

  • MediSwitch launches real time patient eligibility and benefit verification together with Metropolitan Health Group 
  • MediSwitch installs API integration in 18 public sector hospitals in the North-West province. 
  • MediSwitch and Med-e-Mass (Pty) Ltd launch auto-recon eRAs together with MHG and Medihelp. This transaction is piloted with Medicross. 
  • MediSwitch launches SwitchCapture, online claims capture and switching tool to enable low transacting and starter practices to submit claims electronically.

  • Auto- eRAs and benefit check function from Discovery Health go live. 
  • MediSwitch’s successfully tendered for the National Health Laboratory Service business. 
  • All large vendors completed the SwitchOn integration 
  • MediSwitch launched the Discovery Benefit Check transaction type

  • MediSwitch launches ClaimWatch – a free App for healthcare professionals to view daily, monthly, and month-to-date claim statistics via iPad. 
  • Injury on Duty (IOD) electronic claims to the Compensation Fund via MediSwitch go live. 
  • HEALTHone Connect was installed at Total.

  • LifeDoc personal health record solution is launched. 
  • MediSwitch Namibia Switch Electronic Message System (SEMS) goes live enabling realtime claiming. 
  • MedeServe Bureau Services was founded in partnership with Mettle.  
  • HEALTHone Connect was installed at Toyota. 
  • The cloud-based Elixir Live practice management application is launched, providing a seamless combination of extensive clinical and financial record keeping functionalities.  
  • Med-e-Mass bought Health-Soft eScripting solution.

  • Adoption of agile methodology for innovation and development. 
  • The LifeDoc Mobile app is launched for Android and iOS. 
  • The big office move – MediSwitch roof collapse with the Call Centre up and running in less than 24 hours 
  • BHS invests in 2 data centres that are ISO 27001 certified meaning that they meet the stringent international requirements for establishing, implementing, maintaining, and continually improving the information security 
  • HEALTHone Connect is installed at City of Johannesburg clinics as the formal eHealth platform.

  • Altron TMT (Pty) Ltd acquires MediSwitch and merged it with Med-e-Mass and MedeServe incorporating the units under the Altron HealthTech umbrella.  
2019

  • Altron rebrands with new distinctive identity, creating synergy between the different brands in the Altron HealthTech stable. The divisions were finally merged as one, with Gideon Brits leading as the managing director, Andrew Brown the Operations Executive and Andre Esterhuizen the Head of MedeServe.

  • Gideon Brits retires, and Leslie Moodley is appointed as incumbent managing director of Altron HealthTech.
